Location

  • 10 miles southeast of downtown Columbus.
  • Easily accessible from Interstates 270, 71, and 70, and from highways 23 and 33.
  • Off Alum Creek Drive, exit number 49 from I-270.
  • 5,000 acres with on-site Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) and industrial park
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection located 1.4 miles from Rickenbacker International Airport and within FTZ No. 138.

Rickenbacker Area

  • Defined by Rickenbacker International Airport to the south, I-270 to the north, Lockbourne Road to the west and State Route 317/Little Walnut Creek to the east.
  • Encompasses numerous industrial parks, several individual commercial property owners, more than 150 companies and over 35 million square feet of development.

Air Cargo Operations

  • Cargo activity continues to increase; air cargo tonnage has risen nearly 50% during the past decade.
  • No congestion permits aircraft turn times of less than two hours.
  • Centered between Atlanta, New York and Chicago, these major markets can all be reached overnight.
  • Within a one-day truck drive to more than 50 percent of the United States and Canadian population.
  • Trucking costs are significantly less than trucking from New York or Chicago.
  • Landing rates are 33% less than O’Hare and 50% less than JFK.
  • Eagle Global Logistics and Forward Air have established national truck hubs at Rickenbacker, while FedEx and UPS operate regional gateways at the airport.

Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) No. 138

  • Includes the General Purpose Zone at Rickenbacker International Airport in Franklin and Pickaway counties as well as eight General Purpose Zone expansion sites in Allen, Ross, Guernsey, Fairfield, Madison, Marion, Hocking and Licking counties.
  • Features three Subzones at specific business locations.
  • Able to accommodate both industrial and aeronautical uses.
  • More than 70 companies located in the FTZ at Rickenbacker, including many Fortune 500 organizations.

Passenger Charter Terminal

  • A 350-space lot directly in front of the terminal offers parking at $5 per day. An additional 180-space lot accommodates any overflow.
  • Taxis are available in front of the terminal for arriving flights and shuttle service may also be prearranged.
  • A 96-room Baymont Inn & Suites is located just northwest of the terminal, with a courtesy phone available in the terminal for shuttle service.

Intermodal Terminal

  • Norfolk Southern’s existing intermodal facility is utilized to its fullest extent and business is being turned away. The new intermodal facility at Rickenbacker will provide increased capacity and improved levels of service, thereby allowing Central Ohio to regain and expand shipping and economic opportunities.
  • Used for the interchange of shipping containers between trains and trucks, it will provide direct access from existing industrial parks to multiple transportation options, reducing the overall transportation costs for domestic and international shippers.
  • To be operational in 2008, the facility is expected to handle over 300,000 container transfers a year at full build-out.
  • The facility is being built on 300 acres southwest of Rickenbacker International Airport and the Airport Authority and its partners are developing an additional 1,300 acres in conjunction with this project, thereby creating thousands of additional jobs.
  • Projected benefits after the first 10 years of intermodal facility operation include $660 million in transportation cost savings to shippers, a reduction of 49 million truck miles in Ohio and significant reduction of emissions.
